Dominique Derome
Description
This professor, engineer, and architect specializes in building and urban physics. Her initial area of research focused on the performance of building envelopes, heat and moisture transfer, and the mechanical behavior of porous materials, particularly wood. Currently, she is focused on developing mitigation and adaptation solutions for two climate-related hazards: floods and heat waves.
In particular, she studies the impact of green infrastructure—such as trees—on reducing heat islands and helping urban environments adapt to climate change. Her work combines experimentation, advanced imaging, advanced numerical simulation, and multiscale modeling to improve the performance, sustainability, and resilience of buildings and cities, thereby enhancing people’s quality of life.
