Francis Marleau Donais

Description

His research explores the links between land use planning, transportation infrastructure, and ecological transition. A civil engineer by training, he focused his master’s and doctoral studies on land use planning, cultivating an interdisciplinary approach that combines engineering, urban planning, and decision science.

His work focuses on integrating social, environmental, and spatial dimensions into urban infrastructure planning. He is recognized for his expertise in multi-criteria analysis, a decision-making approach he has applied with several Quebec municipalities, including the cities of Quebec City and Montreal, to prioritize urban developments that promote quality of life.

Through his teaching, he encourages the next generation of engineers to design projects that are more grounded in the everyday realities of citizens, placing uses, behaviors, and social responsibility at the heart of engineering the cities of tomorrow.
