Study of the long-term hydrogeological behavior of green infrastructure, considering the impact of climate change

Grant for early career professors - 2023

Description

This project aims to better understand the hydrogeological behavior of green infrastructure (GI) drainage systems, which are essential for managing stormwater in the context of climate change (CC) and aging sewer systems. In collaboration with Montreal and Laval, three experimental sites equipped with advanced sensors monitor water flows and interactions with underground environments.

Through the calibration and validation of a digital twin using artificial intelligence approaches, the project will enable the modeling of the long-term impacts of GIs, including water infiltration and the risk of pollution from deicing salts. The results will guide the optimization of GI design parameters to maximize their performance under current and future climate conditions while reducing their impact on surrounding infrastructure.

This innovative project will help provide sustainable solutions for municipalities by strengthening the resilience of stormwater management systems.
